The co-evolution of strong AGN and central galaxies in different environments

ABSTRACT We exploit a sample of 80 000 Sloan Digital Sky Survey central galaxies to investigate the effect active galactic nucleus (AGN) feedback on their evolution. trace demographics optically selected AGN (Seyferts) as function internal properties and environment. find that preeminence dominant ionizing mechanism increases with stellar mass, overtaking star formation for Mstellar ≥ 1010 M⊙. The fraction changes systematically galaxies’ activity. Within blue cloud, this activity declines, reaching maximum near green valley (${\sim} 17 \pm 4~{{\ \rm per\ cent}}$), followed by decrease transition into red sequence. This systematic trend provides evidence plays key role in regulating suppressing formation. In general, Seyfert achieve an early-type morphology while they still host residual suggests that, all environments, evolves from late- before is fully quenched. Stellar mass important morphological transformation: low-mass systems tend emerge elliptical (T-Type ∼ −2.5 ± 0.7), high-mass counterparts maintain spiral deeper high-stellar centrals, Seyferts early- late-type galaxies, indicating may be linked its transformation. Our analysis further are fuelled own halo gas reservoir, but when group centrals can also increase reservoir via interactions satellite galaxies.
